The group staged a protest outside the parliament building in Bern yesterday demanding that the government pursues a CO2-free climate policy and ends the use of fossil fuels in Switzerland.

Greenpeace climate expert, Georg Klingler, said that action must be taken now to protect our health, glaciers, green meadows, water and biodiversity. He said that Switzerland is lagging behind other European countries and that the carbon footprint of the average Swiss citizens is too high.

Discussions are expected to begin later this year on amending laws to bring Switzerland in line with the 2015 Paris climate agreement, which was signed by 196 countries.
