Nights flights to be reduced from Zurich Airport
Bosses at Zurich Airport say that they are disappointed with a decision to limit the number of late night flights from the airport, which is the largest in the country.
The Federal Office of Civil Aviation has announced a freeze on landings at the airport after 9pm and on take-offs after 10:20pm in an effort to reduce the noise for people who live nearby.
The decision follows a report last year that said that noise levels between 10pm and midnight at and near the airport were often considerably higher than permitted levels. Noise levels during the day mostly comply with official regulations.
Airport bosses are concerned that any night time flight restrictions may have an impact on further development of the airport. It’s not known yet if they will appeal against the decision.
