Swimmers and sailors warned of dangers near docks on Lake Geneva
Swimmers, paddlers and people in small boats on Lake Geneva have been warned that getting too close to landing stages of large boats is a great risk.
CGN, which operates passenger boats on the lake, says that this summer people using the lake seem to have forgotten the basic safety rules of being in the water close to where large boats arrive and depart.
Yesterday, the Simplon, one of 19 boats run by CGN, was unable to dock at Saint- Sulpice in the canton of Vaud as a swimmer wouldn’t get out of the way. A spokesperson for CGN says that lake users should be more aware of the inherent dangers of being in the water near docks and should be considerate to others who are on the lake.
