World Cup sees numbers drop at Lausanne’s Festival de la Cité
Fewer people visited Lausanne’s annual street festival, the Festival de la Cité, this year compared to last year.
A fall in numbers was attributed to people staying away to watch the World Cup and a stormy Saturday. The six-day festival, in the heart of Lausanne and its old city, ended yesterday with organisers estimating that as many as 91,000 people attended compared with 100,000 last year.
Even though visitor numbers were down, organisers of the 47th festival have hailed it as a great success. Audiences were able to see a wide variety of performances, including theatre, dance, classical, jazz and contemporary music, and circus acts.
