Doctors in Switzerland prescribing more opioids
Opioid use is soaring in Switzerland.
Researchers at the University of Lausanne say the number of people using the powerful drugs is up 20-fold since the 1980s.
It means Switzerland is ranked at 7th in the world for opioid use.
Over prescription of drugs like morphine and fentanyl in the United States is being blamed for 115 deaths a day and a climbing heroin problem.
Doctors say their colleagues should be very careful about prescribing the drugs – especially if to treat a pre-existing addiction.
