EU immigration not dragging down wages
EU immigration is not having an adverse effect on Swiss jobs. That’s the conclusion from a report by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.
The report says the labour market is adapting well and wages are stable. It also shows immigration is down. The number of people moving to Switzerland shows an 11% decrease last year from the previous year.
But those arriving tend not to stay for that long. Around half moving to the country to work leave again within 5 years.
The only effect on pay maybe for those at the top end. There is evidence immigration is providing a cap on executive packages.
