New speed limit in France now in force
The French national speed limit has been lowered from 90 kph to 80. The change came into force yesterday. The move is designed to cut road deaths, but it seems it’s not very popular in France.
Recent polls show as much at 75% of people oppose the new limit and some local departments are even refusing to change the road signs in protest.
The new limit affects main roads without a central barrier. Where the limit was 90 – its now 80.
Even if your sat-nav or the road signs say 90, the new limit applies.
