Faults found at nuclear power station
The Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate is looking into why an emergency system has been faulty at the Leibstadt nuclear power station since February – but no one noticed.
Two valves designed to release excess heat in an emergency were found to be closed and not ready to be opened if needed. The problem was discovered during routine testing.
The tests also found a backup diesel generator was broken.
Despite the problems, inspectors say the risk of an accident was only slightly increased.
A full report is being prepared.
