Switzerland through to knock-out World Cup stages
Switzerland is through to the next round of the World Cup after a 2 all draw with Costa Rica.
All they needed was a point to secure their passage – but even if they’d lost, they would have gone through anyway after Serbia lost to Brazil.
The result could be called lucky as many commentators say the team played with less flair than their previous match – perhaps it was down to the controversy over the goal celebrations when two of the Swiss players with Albanian roots seemingly antagonized their Serbian opponents with signs of the Albanian eagle.
The video assistant referee saved Switzerland from a Costa Rica penalty after it ruled a player offside.
Switzerland will next play Sweden.
