Voters should know more about online campaigns
Voters should be more aware how political parties and campaign managers use social media and online advertising in the run up to elections.
The data protection commissioner, Adrian Lobsiger, says people should know what information about them is being harvested to target voters.
He cites the example of how the UK firm Cambridge Analytica used information in the run up the US presidential election and the Brexit vote to influence voters.
More information on how campaigns are being run online will be shared with voters ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections.
