Lone parents warned about travelling with children
Lone parents travelling with children are being warned they face delays at airport passport controls if they can’t prove the other parent agrees to the children leaving the country.
The police say it can add to the problem if the parent has a different surname to their children.
Airlines warn the cost of tickets will not be reimbursed if the passengers are delayed for further checks.
Zurich police advise parents to bring written consent from the absent parent. The letter should contain the children’s names, birthdates, details of the travel including destination and dates of departure and arrival.
Such a document is sometimes demanded by countries the family is flying to.
Police add the parent should also be ready to allow the children to be questioned alone by officers.
