Farmers complain about new road rules in Uri
Uri cantonal police are under fire for not allowing farmers taking their cows to their summer grazing sites in Ticino to use the cantonal roads. New regulations means they have to go through the Gotthard Tunnel.
But the trucks are being caught in major jams due to holiday traffic and the cows are in danger of overheating.
If the truck is moving, the air flows and the cows remain cool.
New rules means the trucks can no longer use the smaller roads over the mountains. One farmer told the press the Uri police don’t care – which is surprising as he points out they’re from a mountain canton and so should understand the farmer’s concerns.
