Passengers complain train breakdown caused them to miss World Cup
Hundreds of train commuters are complaining they missed the start of Switzerland’s opening World Cup game due to a train breakdown and inefficient back-up.
The train was heading to Zurich from Bern, but it had to stop in the small Bernese town of Mattstetten.
Passengers complained the station was too small to handle the crowds and when a replacement train did show up, it was too short – leaving many behind.
To add to the problems for football fans, the local Wi-Fi network was overwhelmed and they couldn’t even stream the match on their phones.
A spokesman for Swiss Federal Railways says a brake problem caused the failure – and although the passengers may have been inconvenienced, they were safe at all times.
