Geneva anti-frontalier initiative fails
An initiative to cut the number of cross border workers in Geneva has failed to collect enough signatures to take the issue to voters.
The right wing Geneva Citizens Movement – which also performed badly in the recent cantonal elections – say they’re 500 names short of the 5,500 needed.
The initiative wanted to force companies in the canton to give priority to Swiss residents over border workers when taking on new staff.
Around 100,000 workers cross the border into Geneva every day.
