Parliament votes in favour of gender boardroom quotas
Parliament has narrowly voted in favour of gender quotas on boardrooms in large companies.
The move passed by just one vote in the House of Representatives, 95 to 94.
The right wing Swiss People’s Party was against the idea.
Companies have 10 years to make the change. They have to have 30% on a director board and 20% on an executive board.
But the move is largely symbolic as there are no sanctions attached to the bill. But companies may have to explain themselves to parliament if they fail to comply.
