Government admits hundreds of migrants have vanished
Most asylum seekers who have left a federal detention centre have vanished. The State Secretariat for Migration admits 309 people have disappeared.
The migrants had had their application to stay in Switzerland denied and were either supposed to be sent back to their home country, or returned to the country where they first applied for asylum.
Switzerland is a signatory to the Dublin Accord on migration which states migrants are the responsibility of their first country of registration.
