Parliament renews Islamic extremist ban
Parliament has voted to continue the ban on al-Qaeda and Islamic State for a further four years. The vote in both houses was unanimous.
Parliament voted to ban both groups in 2015 – but legal limits means the law has to be renewed. It will need to be voted on again in 2022. But it’s hoped by that time there will be new regulations to make belonging to a terror group illegal.
The law means people thought to be travelling to fight with Islamic extremists can be stopped before leaving.
