Mayor defends decision to reject citizenship after raclette question
The Mayor of Freienbach in canton Schwyz is defending the town’s decision to turn down a British national’s request for citizenship.
43 year old David Lewis – who moved to the country when he was a baby - says he failed the interview process as he didn’t know where the dish raclette originated.
But the mayor Daniel Landolt, says that wasn’t the reason. While confidentiality rules forbid revealing too much, he says the decision would’ve been based on the whole conversation and not just one answer.
The good news is Lewis can reapply for citizenship immediately. Next time he will know raclette comes from canton Valais.
