British man denied Swiss citizenship for raclette ignorance.
A 43 year old British man has been denied a Swiss passport as he didn’t know where raclette comes from and only knew one member by name on the local council.
David Lewis says he was told the interview he had with the naturalization committee in Freienbach in canton Schwyz would simply be conversation so they could get to know him better.
Lewis moved to Switzerland when he was a baby and speaks German and French fluently. By all accounts he’s a model citizen. He worked in finance for many years and now runs a chain of coffee shops he set up.
He says he will try again – mainly for his children.
But he’s still CHF 2,700 out of pocket.
