Geneva hunter who shot donkeys faces jail
A 40 year old Geneva hunter is facing jail time in France after he shot and killed 4 donkeys owned by a trekking company in September last year.
He claims he thought they were deer.
He and his brother were hunting in a forest in France about 65 km from Geneva.
But prosecutors say he shot the animals at 55 meters – and it would be impossible not to have recognized them.
The shooting was shocking at the time – but new revelations suggest it’s worse than first thought. The man fired 11 times, needing to reload, and prosecutors say his brother failed to fire a single shot. A strange decision, they say, if they thought the animals were deer.
The man could be jailed for up to 2 years and faces several thousand euros in fines.
