David Goodall dies in Basel
David Goodall is dead. The 104 year old Australian scientist who travelled to Switzerland to end his life carried out the procedure yesterday – as planned.
He said his quality of life has deteriorated so much, he wanted to die.
Laws in Australia bans assisted suicide – so Goodall was forced to travel to Switzerland for the procedure. He said before his death he believes there should be more choice for the elderly to choose how they die – and that he would have preferred to die at home.
It took two minutes for Goodall to die after the injection of the barbiturates – enough time for him to complain that it was taking too long.
But he died peacefully, according to witnesses, while listening to Beethoven’s ninth symphony.
