Heavy traffic expected this month
May is the month of public holidays. And the Federal Roads Office is warning of major delays at the weekends.
The main routes north and south will be the busiest and those seeking to head off during the breaks are being advised to check for alternative routes – think about leaving at quieter times – or take the train.
Border crossings will also be busy and slow – especially around cantons Sankt Gallen, Aargau and Schaffhausen.
Swiss Federal Railways are laying on extra trains and adding carriages to normal services to cope with the expected demand.
This weekend is expected to be busy as Ascension is on Thursday and many will be taking the Friday off too to make a long weekend – and then Pentecost is on Monday 21st.
