Russian Chelsea football club owner on trial in Fribourg
The Russian billionaire and Chelsea football club owner Roman Abromovich is on trial in Switzerland.
A court in Fribourg is hearing claims the 52 year old oligarch owes the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development millions of dollars following a loan it made to the energy giant Gazprom, which is co-owned by Abromovich.
Gazprom is disputing the Swiss court has jurisdiction to hear the case. But the Swiss federal court has already ruled the trial can take place.
It’s not known how long the case will take.
