Farmer jailed for animal mistreatment
A farmer from canton Solothurn will be going to jail after allowing some of his cows to starve to death.
Police and cantonal vets raided the farm in 2016 and found dead cattle and others underfed. In all 17 out of 26 had died.
One other had to be euthanized.
The 56 year old farmer was found guilty of mistreatment and he’s been sentenced to serve at least 6 months in jail. Prosecutors had been pushing for a three year sentence, but the court heard how the man was suffering from depression and noted he showed remorse in court.
He will start serving his sentence after he’s completed a psychiatric therapy course.
