Easter traffic lighter than expected - but unprepared drivers cause problems
Traffic heading through the Gotthard tunnel this Easter holiday was lighter than expected. It’s thought the cold weather put many off travelling south for the long weekend.
But some were caught up in a jam heading to the tunnel on Saturday as a spate of accidents blocked the access roads. A sudden snowfall caught many by surprise. Uri cantonal police say many cars had summer tryes fitted and skidded on the road. The tunnel was reopened on Saturday afternoon.
But generally traffic was down 8% on last year.
