Geneva based email servers used by Cambridge Analytica
A Geneva based email service, ProtonMail, is confirming its systems were used by the controversial data company, Cambridge Analytica. The Swiss company is known for its email encryption and that it deletes all email sent through its servers after they’ve been read.
Cambridge Analytica is being accused of exploiting stolen Facebook data to manipulate elections in the US and the Brexit referendum in the UK. Its alleged activities have been revealed by the British newspaper ‘The Observer’ and Channel Four news.
ProtonMail told a trade magazine, Infosecurity, they were not surprised that Cambridge Analytica used their systems – but refused to comment further on the possible illegality of the activity until the issue has been examined by a Swiss court.
