Health campaigners to fight tobacco advertising
Health campaigners are launching an initiative to ban all tobacco related advertising, despite the debate already being carried out in Parliament.
But Parliament has already rejected a full on ban. One MP, Bruno Pezzati, says the only victim would be the advertising industry which supports 13,000 jobs and has a value of CHF 6.5bn to the economy.
The new initiative would go further – banning all advertising in any place that could be seen by children. In their sights are mainly billboards and music festival sponsorship.
Campaigners have until the end of the year to collect 100,000 signatures.
Some cantons have already banned tobacco billboard advertising.
