Police criticized for shooting calf dead
A farmer in canton Solothurn is criticizing the police after an officer shot dead an escaped calf. The farmer says it was a complete over reaction and is demanding damages.
On Monday, police were called after the calf and four other cattle escaped their enclosure and were heading for the village of Langendorf.
Police say the other cows were herded back – but the calf had been injured and was running in a confused state. The officer shot the animal several times with his service weapon.
A cantonal police spokesman defended the action, saying it was taken for safety reasons.
