Federal government keeps right to tax citizens
In other votes, the federal government will keep its right to tax citizens. The right of the federal government to tax the people has to be renewed every 15 years.
84% said yes as well as all the cantons. The finance minister, Ueli Maurer says he’s pleased at the majority – which was 10% higher than opinion polls had been suggesting.
He had earlier said if the ability of the federal government to tax the people has been removed, it would have been a ‘nightmare’.
Education harmonization is also a step closer in the German speaking part of the country. Education chiefs have been working for the past few years to bring syllabuses closer together across all cantons.
The concept has already been agreed by voters, but each canton also needs to adopt the new national syllabus. Yesterday Zurich and Bern gave the green light – so schools can start in the next academic year.
Schools in the French speaking regions have already adopted the new syllabus.
