Geneva political party wants to limit frontaliers right to work
The Geneva right wing political party, the Geneva Citizens Movement, is launching an initiative to force employers in the canton to hire people who live in Switzerland before anyone who requires a Frontalier G permit.
This will effectively limit EU citizens from living in France in the Geneva job market.
The initiative is labelled ‘Frontaliers: Stop!’
The party says federal regulations now allow the canton to bring in laws restricting frontaliers in the job market. Since the 2014 referendum calling for limits on EU workers in the country, Switzerland has struck a deal with the EU which allows Swiss nationals to be prioritized.
The Geneva Citizens Movement says the cantons have flexibility on how to interpret the federal rules.
It needs to collect 5,227 signatures by June 15th to force the issue to a vote.
