More people joining assisted dying group
The assisted suicide group Exit says membership is growing.
At the end of last year there were over 110,000 members. In 2017 the organization helped 734 end their lives – up only slightly from the year before.
60% of users of the service were women. The main reasons are terminal cancer, age related illnesses and chronic pain.
Most of the users are in the German speaking areas – mainly Zurich and Bern.
Exit only helps Swiss citizens or long term residents in Switzerland. Unlike the other organization, Dignitas, it doesn’t accept people coming from abroad for help in ending their lives.
