Calls not to conclude trade deal with Indonesia if anti-gay law enacted
New laws designed to punish pre-marital sex and homosexual acts in Indonesia is threatening the conclusion of a free trade deal with Switzerland.
The transgressors could face several years in jail.
A Swiss government spokesman says the trade deal is highly advanced and could be concluded by the summer.
Gay rights organizations are calling on the government to suspend talks with Indonesia. The platform, gay.ch has launched an online petition not to conclude the deal if hatred of gays, lesbians and transgender people are anchored in law.
The UN and ASEAN countries have also criticized the move.
