Test smoking restrictions at six train stations
Smoking restrictions are now in place at six Swiss train stations.
The project is a test by Swiss Federal Railways which may extend the ban to all stations next year.
Currently, although smoking is banned on train and inside stations – it’s still permitted on the platforms.
The six stations are spread across the language regions, Basel, Bellinzona, Chur Neuchatel, Nyon and Stadelhofen in Zurich.
All stations have slightly different restrictions – either a complete ban, smoking areas or smoking lounges.
Officials will gauge passenger reaction to decide on a national policy.
