EU migration into Switzerland falls dramatically
The number of EU workers coming to Switzerland has halved in the last four years. The State Secretariat for Migration puts the fall down to the improving economy in the Eurozone.
Last year almost 31,000 EU nationals moved to Switzerland – down from 61,000 four years ago.
Despite the fall, the right wing Swiss People’s Party says it will continue to push for stricter controls on EU nationals moving into the country.
Switzerland is already signaling to the EU it would like to incorporate the 120 bilateral agreements the country has with the EU into five core themes. Free movement, mutual conformity agreements, and agricultural trade and transportation agreements.
