Awards given to smart street lights and electric bus
The Federal Office of Energy has awarded prizes to several ideas designed to save power.
Smart street lights have been installed on some streets in Zurich. The lights dim when there is no traffic – and brighten when a car approaches. The measure saves a third in power consumption.
Also the fast charging TOSA bus built by ABB which runs to and from the airport in Geneva was recognized. It went into full operation last month after a testing phase. The electric bus can flash charge its batteries in just 20 seconds when it makes a stop.
The innovations have been given the Watt d’Or prize which is handed out every year to highlight the latest energy saving ideas.
