The body of the 22 year old driver who died in a crash in Gotthard tunnel can now be returned home to Germany after locals donated the money needed for the transport.

The man, identified as Julius, died last week after his car hit an oncoming truck. The truck driver also died and four more were seriously injured. They remain in hospital.

Julius came from Lörrach in Germany and his family couldn’t afford the CHF 7,000 needed to bring the body home.

Locals donated, including his football club and the hospital where he worked.

His family says they’re touched by the sympathy and donations.
