Switzerland to close 1,000 nuclear bunkers
Switzerland is to close around 1,000 civil defence bunkers across the country. About half of the total.
Although the head of the Civil Protection Office, Kurt Münger, says international security concerns are not the same as they were in the past - the main reason is the lack of people to maintain them.
Some have already been sold off, to those who wish to have their own nuclear proof home or to IT companies wanting secure locations for their servers.
Others are still used to house soldiers at times.
But many others will be dismantled. They will still be around for some time yet – the closure project will take 25 years.
