Figures from the University of Sankt Gallen show retail tourism is costing Swiss businesses over CHF 9bn this year.

That’s up 10% from 2015.

All sectors are affected. Shoppers are stocking up on food, medicine, clothing and white goods.

But now shoppers don’t even have to cross a border. Online shopping is also taking business away from local shops – compared to two years ago the share of people internet shopping is up 7% at 37%.
