Students worry about beer ban at graduate party in Winterthur
Students at the Zurich School of Engineering are aghast at the plans to ban beer sales during their annual graduation celebrations.
Every year in May, graduates celebrate the end of school with an all day party outside the university in Winterthur – which normally involves a lot of beer.
But the school says the party has got out of hand – and now many people from all over the region come to enjoy the fun.
The staff say it’s too loud and disturbs the lessons for those who are not graduating.
The students say a ban on beer is a disaster. Not just because the beer allows people to unwind, but the party is mainly financed by the bars.
The annual festival has been running for 100 years – and the students union believe the beer ban could mark the end of the tradition.
