National News // Nov. 23, 2017

Canton Jura has introduced a minimum wage of CHF 20 an hour.

Neuchâtel has recently done the same and Ticino is also discussing a minimum monthly salary of CHF 3,400.

Cantons are now evaluating bringing in minimum wages after the Federal Court ruled there was no law preventing them from doing so.

There is no national minimum wage.

Some left wing campaigners say the rates being discussed are too low. The 20 franc hourly level or around CHF 3,500 a month is considered the lowest amount a single person can live on.
