Christmas markets open with tighter security - mainly
The country’s first Christmas market opens later today in Zurich.
Following the truck attack at a market in Berlin last year which killed 12 people, police will be out in force.
More markets will be opening in the next few days – and different police forces are taking a different approach to security.
In Zurich, the force says it will be a show of strength as it’s not possible to completely seal off the city’s largest square – the Sechseläutenplatz.
But concrete bollards have been placed around the markets in Basel and Bremgarten.
But in canton Schwyz at the very popular Christkindlimarkt – the police say there have been no changes, but they are monitoring the situation.
