Prisoners go in strike to demand 'sex room'

National News // Nov. 20, 2017

Inmates at the Thorberg prison in canton Bern have gone on strike.

They’re refusing to do any prison work until a seven page list of demands are satisfied. They want more pay, more food, more access to news and a room to have sex with their partners.

The prisoners say the prices in the prison shop have gone up, but their prison pay of CHF 320 a month stays the same. They note in other prisons in the country pay CHF 400.

But the sex room is the highest. They claim relationships are breaking down and some prisoners want to start a family with their partners before it’s too late.

The prison governor, Thomas Egger, says he hasn’t yet seen the list so can’t comment.
