Petition launched to can smacking children
A petition is to be launched to force a vote to ban smacking children in Switzerland.
Unlike many other European countries, smacking children is allowed. The country has been admonished by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child for not outlawing the practice.
A group called ‘No Violence to Children’ will start collecting signatures on November 20th – which is Universal Children’s Day.
A study by the University of Fribourg shows 20% of Swiss parents don’t believe slapping children is corporal punishment.
Parliament rejected outlawing corporal punishment for kids in May.
