Geneva initiative launched to cap health insurance
An initiative is being launched in Geneva to cap the cost of health insurance to 10% of a household income.
The canton already has one of the country’s highest premiums.
The petition is being organized by a collection of left wing political parties. The president of the Geneva Socialist Party, Carole-Anne Kast, says they support proposed changes to the system nationally, but they can’t wait any longer.
The move is not necessarily aimed at those on low incomes, as there is already state support for them – but at the middle classes who get no support from the state.
The group has until March to collect just over 5,000 signatures to force the issue on the ballot paper.
