Couple ordered to pay back social security payments
A couple in Zurich have been ordered to pay back CHF 330,000 in social assistance they’ve been given.
The rules state if a family has more than CHF 10,000 in assets, they are not entitled to welfare payments.
The court heard the couple own land and a house in Lebanon which they didn’t declare.
They arrived at court for the hearing in a Jaguar.
They’ve been given a suspended prison sentence for fraud and now authorities are making a claim to get the money back. A spokeswoman for the social security office says they’ll be watching carefully and if the couple sell the land in Lebanon – they’ll know about it.
