Is bus and tram Wi-Fi in Geneva worthwhile?
Some Geneva parliamentarians are questioning the wisdom of equipping buses and trams in the city with Wi-Fi.
The Geneva transport company, the TPG, is spending CHF 250,000 on the project. But members of the Green party say the money would be used better to employ more drivers – which would mean around 400 km more could be covered every day.
Also, they question the value of Wi-Fi on the buses. They point out locals will be connected by their network anyway, tourists will have free access with their hotels and business travelers are probably using taxis.
The idea of providing Wi-Fi on public transport is to make it more attractive to users.
