Zurich public transport drivers sacked for phone use

Public transport bosses in Zurich have sacked three drivers so far this year for using either phones or tablets at the wheel.

Managers have also sent letters to all drivers warning of them of the consequences of breaking the rules.

The drivers have been fired for gross negligence, which means they get no notice period.

A spokesman for Zurich transport says there is no exception – even if a wife is in labour, he points out.

More and more public transport drivers are being filmed by passengers if they do anything untoward.
