Geneva police launch major search operation for swimmer
Geneva police launched a major search and rescue operation on Friday afternoon after a caller says they saw someone floating down the Arve River under the Wilsdorf Bridge.
Officers set up search points at bridges downstream and a helicopter was called in to help. The air search was quickly called off as the river waters were far too muddy to spot anyone from a height.
The search was called off after a couple of hours as no one was found. A police spokesman says the river flow was quite slow and the waters fairly warm – it would have been possible for anyone in the river to have climbed out by themselves.
