850,000 in Geneva to watch the giants
850,000 people gathered in Geneva over the weekend to watch the Saga des Géants. Two giant puppets walked or cycled through the streets – controlled by more than 70 Lilliputians.
The event has been described as one of the biggest in the country by Geneva’s Culture Minister Sami Kanaan and defended the use of CHF 2.5m of public money to stage the event. The returns are expected to be 4 times the amount invested. Shops were allowed to stay open for an extra hour on Friday to capitalize on the extra people in Geneva.
The police say there were no problems and the Saga passed peacefully.
