As the days are getting shorter, the insurer AXA Winterthur is warning motorists to be extra careful about wild animals on the roads.

Analysis of insurance claims show the most dangerous cantons for wild animal strikes are Jura, Graubünden, Schaffhausen and Fribourg.

The numbers show around 8,000 deer and several hundred boar are killed on the roads every year. 74 people were seriously injured in accidents involving wild animals.

Their advice is to take extra care in forested areas and if you see an animal in front of you – brake heavily.
